Research in the Bright group focuses on quantifying important molecular-level events in complex systems. The working hypothesis is that insights of this type can lead to improvements in analytical methods and devices. State-of-the-art laser-based techniques, robotics, and analyses are used throughout this research.

Examples of current research activities include:

[i] Determining the chemistry within nanoporous xerogels as a means to develop diversity-based biosensors and biosensor arrays.
[ii] Quantifying the behavior of proinflammatory cytokines, growth factors and integrins at interfaces and within biodegradable formulations to develop new materials for wound repair.
[iii] Elucidating key molecular-level events and processes in supercritical fluids and room temperature ionic liquids to design environmentally responsible solvents and processes.
[iv] Developing new methods to perform direct chemical analysis in real samples with minimal sample pre-treatment to increase analysis speed and minimize error.
